Interview santa
'‘Ho, ho, ho, what a beautiful sector!’'
We were working away when Santa Claus called us unexpectedly. “I need a screen,” he said. “I’m having trouble with too much Northern Light on my crops, and according to my sources, I should come to you to block that out.”
Yes, it turns out Santa has a greenhouse too. It makes sense, with so many elves to feed. “Greenhouses work everywhere,” Santa said. “Even at the North Pole. And you know what else works? Everyone involved in the horticulture sector. I mean, my elves work overtime if needed, but those growers, breeders, suppliers, greenhouse builders, and logistics people really know their stuff.”
SPECULAAS ACTION v.v. LYRA
Being a sports club in these times isn’t easy
You wouldn’t really envy them, it’s not breezy
Nothing’s allowed, and what is, comes with rules galore
So how do you get the funds you need and more?
For new equipment, for instance, like at VV Lyra
You’d have a harder time shaking them loose than Shakira
But don’t despair, because the club had a great drive
nd ALWECO, of course, was quick to arrive
We’re big fans of sports and local teams
So we bought speculaas from Lyra, fulfilling their dreams
The proceeds go to this Westland football team
And the treats go to our staff—what a scheme!
At ALWECO, we firmly believe in this wonderful cause:
When you support each other, everyone wins, no pause!
A Case of ALWECO - Hortere Conseil
In Brittany, double shading screens are rarely used. In the south of France, around Montpellier, there is a greater need for shading and energy-saving screens. These are just a few of the unique characteristics of the French horticultural market.
Johanna Croissant from our French agent, Hortère Conseil, knows all about these specifics. Hortère Conseil is the secret behind ALWECO's success in France. Since we value working with Hortère Conseil, we’re excited to introduce them in this first edition of A Case of ALWECO.
Insiders: André Vreugdenhil
“Yes, I’m doing well,” André Vreugdenhil says over the phone. “Nothing out of the ordinary.” As ALWECO’s longest-serving employee, he is this month’s feature in ALWECO Insiders, where we spotlight one of our team members each month.
'What does my job entail,’ begins André. ‘It's very broad, actually. Logistics. Purchasing materials that are needed. But also making sure the telephony works, the IT in our premises, the project management around the new website, you name it. All projects that make sure the company keeps running well, so to speak.’

ALWECO EXPLAINS: Ultra Groove Cable Drum
In 2013, we introduced the new standard in cable drums: the Ultra Groove. It has since become a very popular product in the greenhouse industry, but do you know the story behind the Ultra Groove cable drum?
Double H in the United Kingdom experienced issues with broken tension cables in their phalaenopsis cultivation in 2013. At that time, ALWECO had just developed the Ultra Groove cable drum. Since there was no immediate existing solution for Double H, we decided to test this new cable drum in practice. After all, that's what we stand for: always solving every problem, ensuring the customer is never at a disadvantage.
At home in all markets
When you claim to be versatile, you’ve got to show it in action. Project Berghege is exactly the type of project that highlights our flexibility.
No, you’re not seeing a greenhouse in the photo. This is utility construction for the pharmaceutical company Byondis in Nijmegen, which is building a new office for its former partner, Synthon. For this, we’ve installed two retractable shade systems, designed to move towards each other, on behalf of construction company Berghege.
Thanks to these screens, there’s better control over the indoor climate, preventing it from becoming too warm under the interior dome. As you can see, our specialists find solutions for every greenhouse need—even when the “greenhouse” is actually a utility building…
New Alweco Sportswear
In the coming days, the weather is perfect for outdoor exercise—not too chilly, not too hot. And we’ll make sure you look great whether you’re cycling or running...
This summer, we launched our own line of sportswear for our staff and partners. Designed specifically for running, cycling, or whatever sport you’re into, we believe it’s important as a company to encourage people to live consciously and healthily.
As you can see in the photos, our sportswear features our new branding. We think it looks really awesome!
ALWECO EXPLAINS: How to fix a broken pull wire
How do you repair a tension wire? It’s simple—just a few easy steps. In the video, we walk you through the process of fixing a broken or detached tension wire on your screen cloth in under a minute.
We believe it's crucial that all our installations are reliable down to the smallest detail. When ALWECO installs it, it should last—plain and simple.
However, if something does break, you, as a grower, can often fix it yourself with ease. Ease of installation and repair is a key focus in our product development, saving you a lot of hassle.

New Look & Feel
We’re excited to share that this summer, we’ve given our headquarters a fresh new look!
Since 2008, we’ve been based at our main office in Honderdland, Maasdijk, and it was time for a makeover. Especially since our second location on the same site was completed in 2019 with a vibrant new appearance.
Of course, nothing changes on the inside. We continue to uphold the same reliability, innovation, and straightforwardness we’re known for.

Oil Separation Pit
Did you know our new building on Honderdland features a unique addition? During construction, we installed an internal oil separation pit.
What makes it unique? We can now clean and disinfect all our machines and pipe rail carts on-site. This ensures that our equipment arrives at your job site in pristine condition. The oil separation pit helps us meet all legal requirements for transport and environmental standards.
By the way, if you’re a grower with some pipe rail carts that need a thorough cleaning, feel free to give us a call!

Insiders : Marcel Alsemgeest
"You do everything to ensure every project runs successfully."
"Always being available and ready to drive to any project at a moment's notice—that's the key," says project manager Marcel Alsemgeest about his role. In his office, twelve folders surround him, one for each ongoing project. Marcel ensures that these projects are delivered as promised, no matter what. "My car and my phone are sacred."
"A few weeks ago, something didn’t arrive at a project in Bordeaux due to COVID-19," he recalls. "So, I immediately jumped in my car and drove there with the right materials. I also took the opportunity to do a project inspection. Keeping every project on track is the most important thing for us."
A technician walks in. He needs to replace a broken condensate drain in Germany. "I got the report an hour ago, and now someone is already on the way to fix it. No fuss, just done."
At ALWECO, we think sport is important
At ALWECO, we believe in the importance of sports. Not only do we have our own line of sportswear, but we’re also committed to supporting local sports clubs. We’ve been sponsoring the Westland Cup for years and have been a club sponsor at @VVNaaldwijk for the past two years, complete with an advertising board along the main field.
What makes this club extra special to us is their successful girls’ division. Over a hundred girls are now playing at the club each week, including our own Stephan’s daughters in the MO10 and MO13 teams. So, we have a personal stake in VV Naaldwijk’s success as well…
Supporting local sports clubs and encouraging regional sports is one of ALWECO’s social goals, especially now when sports clubs are facing challenging circumstances and stringent measures. Keep moving, stay healthy, and go VV Naaldwijk!
